Sighting a Magnificent Hummingbird must be a marvelous experience. Unfortunately, these “magnificent” little creatures don’t frequent my neck of the woods (sigh). So, I have to make do with pictures and articles and videos…

Bird of the Week: Magnificent Hummingbird

We’re kicking off our featured birds of Hummingbird Month with one of the most aptly named hummingbirds to visit North America – the magnificent hummingbird is truly magnificent. Not only is this bird one of the largest hummingbird species, but the males also have stunning plumage that includes an iridescent violet crown and a glittering emerald green or teal gorget. Females are not as brilliantly colored but still have sparkling green upperparts and a regal bearing that befits their name.

Have you seen the magnificent hummingbird or had these birds in your backyard? Share your sightings in the comments!
